Netflix has given the green light to a That 70s Show spinoff about the 1990s. The new series, That 90s Show, will serve as a sequel to the prior hit TV show. Returning for the new series on Netflix are the original creators, Bonnie and Terry Turner, as well as Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who will reprise their roles as Red and Kitty Forman and serve as executive producers.
According to a report from Deadline, the That 70s Show spinoff will be set in Wisconsin in 1995. It will primarily follow Leia Forman, the daughter of Eric and Donna. In That 90s Show, Leia is visiting her grandparents, Red and Kitty, for the summer. During that time, she will make new friends during this new but familiar era of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.
That 90s Show has been picked up by Netflix for 10 episodes. However, if the That 70s Show spinoff is as successful as the original, it will likely be renewed. But, on the other hand, if it is as unsuccessful as the often forgotten That 80s Show, the 1st season of That 90s Show may be all fans receive.
As of right now, there are no deals with any other That 70s Show cast members to return for That 90s Show. However, it is possible that some of the original cast, such as Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, or Wilmer Valderama, may make a guest appearance.
That 70s Show ran for eight seasons on Fox from 1998 to 2006. It followed the lives of a group of six teenagers living in Point Place, Wisconsin from May of 1976 to December of 1979. The show often focused on the main characters dealing with an ironic desire for independence but not the responsibilities adulthood often brings.
