Tokyo Game Show 2020 is currently running from September 24 to 27. Many Japanese publishers and developers are showing off interesting news in Japan’s biggest gaming event. One such company is Capcom, who has a lot to show off. As a part of the official TGS 2020 ONLINE stream, their TGS 2020 Capcom Special Program gave us a brief sneak peek into three of their latest games, Resident Evil VIII, Monster Hunter Rise, and Monster Hunter Stories 2, before their live stream on September 26 and 27. We’ve gone through and highlighted the best moments, those moments you can find below.

Resident Evil VIII New Developer Insight Video

The 2020 Capcom Special Program opened with the Resident Evil VIII/Village panel. The panel featured Village Producer Tsuyoshi Kanda and Senior Manager of Global Research & Development Peter Fabiano. Here are what they talked about in the stream:

  • The snowy village where the game takes place will play a central role and can even be considered “another protagonist”.
  • The new enemies will move fast and sometimes hunt in packs, but you’ll encounter many supporting cast members as well.
  • The Resident Evil team got pretty attached to Ethan along Resident Evil 7‘s development, so they end up making him the Village‘s protagonist as well. Village’s story will take all different aspects of his character and tell his whole story. During this, an in-game story that Mia told Ethan will run parallel to the game plot as well, adding more mystery to the game.
  • The team is making sure that Village will be scarier and has a larger scale than 7. You won’t just be exploring the inside of the village but also some of the surrounding areas where you wouldn’t expect for the first time.
  • Resident Evil VIII is planned to be released on PC and next-gen consoles. Capcom is also looking at porting it to current-gen consoles as well, namely PS4 and Xbox One.
  • Next year, they are going to celebrate Resident Evil’s 25th anniversary with an event that’ll begin on March 21, 2021.

Monster Hunter Rise TGS 2020 Capcom Special Program Trailer

Next, Monster Hunter series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Rise producer Yasunori Ichinose talked about their upcoming projects. First is the Switch-exclusive Monster Hunter Rise that’s releasing simultaneously worldwide on March 26, 2021. Here are the key take-aways:

  • As the Nintendo Direct Mini trailer showed off, the Wirebug will be a pivotal gameplay mechanic that gives “fresh experience” to the series. It’ll give more mobility options and open up new combos. The TGS 2020 trailer above shows off a glimpse of new attacks for Lance, Hammer, Light Bowgun, Long Sword, and Barrel Bombs.
  • There will be a live gameplay demo in the September 26 Capcom stream.
  • Shrine Ruins will act as a “central area” for the first hunting area you unlock. After a quest, you’ll head back to the Shrine Ruins area.
  • New monsters:
  • The Monster Hunter team still can’t reveal much about the game’s flagship, Magnamolo.
  • The territorial Bird Wyvern Aknosom’s design is based on a parasol. When it detects intruders, it spreads its wings and crest that has eye ball-like patterns to intimidate them.
  • The pack leader Bird Wyvern, Great Izuchi, attacks its prey with a scythe-like tail along with two smaller Izuchis.
  • The gluttonous Tetranadon will eat anything it sees. After eating, its attacks will be slower but also more damaging.
  • The new monster-affecting modifier, Rampage, will be shown in the future.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is Getting Character Customization

  • The Monster Hunter team still can’t reveal much about the game’s flagship, Magnamolo.
  • The territorial Bird Wyvern Aknosom’s design is based on a parasol. When it detects intruders, it spreads its wings and crest that has eye ball-like patterns to intimidate them.
  • The pack leader Bird Wyvern, Great Izuchi, attacks its prey with a scythe-like tail along with two smaller Izuchis.
  • The gluttonous Tetranadon will eat anything it sees. After eating, its attacks will be slower but also more damaging.

And then the 2020 Capcom Special Program ends with some Monster Hunter Stories 2 details. Just like the previous title and Rise, Stories 2 will be a Switch-only release for consoles in Summer 2021. They haven’t confirmed whether or not the game will be ported to mobile like Stories 1. Here are some of the key takeaways from the 2020 Capcom Special Program:

  • Rathaloses all over the land have mysteriously disappeared. You, the son of a legendary Rider called Red, will meet a Wyverian girl named Ena that’s entrusted with the last of the Rathalos’ egg.
  • In the first game, your character’s look was already set in stone. Stories 2, on the other hand, will let you customize them and use Hunter’s weapons, as you can see in the picture above.
  • Some aspects will tie into Rise and vice-versa.

Capcom will be hosting its stream on September 26 and 27, with both starting at 5:00 AM PDT. If you missed out on the TGS 2020 Capcom Special Program, you can watch the archived stream below.
