Kingdom Hearts 3 is still a good ways away, but there has been speculation for awhile that we may get an HD remaster for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance in the meantime. Square Enix took the stage at TGS during Sony’s press conference to reveal a new Kingdom Hearts collection, which also includes brand new content in Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 of course will include an HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, but also brand new content in the form of Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage.

We really don’t know what Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover will entail, though it’s based on the name of the browser game that has recently arrived on mobile platforms.

The new Birth By Sleep content appears to follow the story of Aqua beyond perhaps the secret ending that we already had in Birth By Sleep that shared the same name. The visuals look fantastic here and should help to set up Kingdom Hearts 3 even more.

There have been rumors for awhile for a Kingdom Hearts 2.9, so the choice to do 2.8 is pretty interesting. Does this mean they have something else to fit in the 2.9 to go before 3? I would guess it might be a full collection with 1.5, 2.5 and 2.8 all in one, but we’ll have to wait and see.
