Get your team ready, Tetris 99 players. There’s a new update that will have you working together better than ever before.

Nintendo has released a new update for its popular Switch puzzle game. Players can now team up together in an all-new mode while also checking out more features and getting ready for the upcoming Maximus Cup throwdown, happening later this week.

In Team Battle Mode, players choose their favorite from four different teams at the start of each game. While some may be higher in the count with members, those that are smaller will receive a boost in attack power to balance things out. Whoever has a member still standing at the end of the match wins for their entire team.

But those who get knocked out of the match don’t stop. While waiting on the sidelines as spectators, they can send “Likes” to the players still in the game, cheering them on. Staying on throughout the match will allow you to receive XP points, no matter where your progress ended.

The team Battle Mode will tie in with the 10th Maximus Cup, kicking off on Dec. 12 at 11pm PDT. It’ll run through Dec. 16 at 10:59pm PDT. Players will win depending on where they place in each match, and the top 999 players will walk away with 999 points for their team. Full details on this tournament are available on the official Tetris 99 page.

It’s a fun mode to try out, especially if you’ve got friends that are into competitive Tetris 99 as much as you are.

The update also enables you to test out different button configuration options, and you can purchase Special Themes you may have missed. Several favorites are available for 30 in-game tickets each. These include the original Game Boy Tetris, Splatoon, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Super Kirby Clash. Hurry, they’re only available for a limited time. You can also snag a few user emblems, too.

This update is free and should download the next time you start the game. We’ll see you in the Cup.

Tetris 99 is available now for Nintendo Switch. You can download it digitally or check out the retail version (with a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership required for online play) for $29.99.
