The collaboration everyone has been waiting for is finally here. The Tetris 99 13th Maximus Cup event is now live, with a special Animal Crossing theme you can unlock.
The theme features a collage of the different Animal Crossing character’s heads in a cute art style. The other fun change is the style of the block themselves, that are now adorned with the designs of the fruit, fossils and items.
The new theme also features the music from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. When the match first begins it plays a calm song from the island, but as the game ramps up so does the music.
To unlock the Animal Crossing theme, you must obtain 100 event points by playing matches. Depending on your performance dictates how many points you earn, so higher play means earning the points faster.
Even if you are not the best at Tetris 99, the points are fairly easy to earn. It should only take you a couple of hours at most to obtain the points necessary to unlock the theme.
Tetris 99 is free to play with a Nintendo Online Subscription, which most Animal Crossing players probably have. If you have recently picked up a Switch to play Animal Crossing and do have the online subscription, Tetris 99 is worth giving a shot.
Tetris 99 Adds Animal Crossing Theme to Unlock
Tetris 99 has been used as a sort of promotional tool to highlight new releases coming to Switch with new theme updates. Some of the games to have an unlock-able theme include Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Pokemon: Sword and Shield.
Players have until Monday, May 18 to obtain the special Animal Crossing theme. After that you will not be able to unlock the theme, so get it while you still can get it.
