It was pretty big news earlier this year when the possibilities of cross-platform play between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were brought to light, regardless of Sony’s hesitation to really get behind the idea. Regardless of the lack of information on the feature, many fans have been asking if some of the upcoming multiplayer-focused games will support the feature.

Some of those fans have been asking about the possibilities of Tekken 7 supporting cross-platform play between PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and developer Bandai Namco has now responded with their thoughts on the matter. They said the following:

“Well technologically it’s not that difficult to accomplish and we have an idea of how we would do it if we were to do so. It more about policy I guess you could say, because you’re connecting with a different platform, whether it’s PC, console or etc.

“Specifically for PC, it’s a platform that’s very open and you can do many things on it, so obviously there are a certain group that use cheat tools  or something like that, and whether that’s true or not, there’s still an image among some gamers that if they were connecting to an opponent on PC it might not be fair because they cheat.

“There is also the probably main reason for implementing such a feature is that you have availability of so many more opponents to fight online so there is that benefit there. So, I guess, we have to kind of think overall of the fighting community as a whole. How do they want to see the game, do they want to see it implemented or not and in what manner. These are the things we are still kind of exploring so it’s not decided at the moment.”

It seems like there are more issues than just each of the 3 platforms working in harmony in order to allow cross-platform play to happen, as there are some good points brought up about the potential advantage that PC gamers would have over console gamers. Still, if they could figure out a way to get it to work it would be great for ensuring that players have plenty of opponents to take on no matter which platform they play on.

Tekken 7 is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in early 2017.
