Netflix has released the teaser trailer for Bridgerton season two today, and it opens with the voice of Julie Andrews as Lady Whistledown saying, “Dearest gentle reader, did you miss me?” CNN explains for those who have not seen the first season of Bridgerton that Lady Whistledown is the author of a scandalous newsletter spilling the tea on London’s wealthiest elites. As scenes from the upcoming season are shown, Lady Whistledown tells the audience, “This author has been doing but one thing: honing my skills. No. Even better. I’ve been sharpening my knives — for all of you.” As she utters those last four words, we see the character Penelope Featherington speaking them along with Andrews’ voice as she writes. This is a nod to the reveal at the end of season one that Penelope is Lady Whistledown.

Bridgerton is set in London during the Regency era. It centers on the lives of the Bridgerton family as the sibling’s search for love amongst the ton, a British high society during the era. Lady Whistledown narrates the show knowing all the ins and outs and secrets of London in a way that draws even the interest of royalty. Entertainment Weekly reports that Bridgerton season two will continue to follow the lives of the siblings. The eldest brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), is determined to find a suitable wife and will take an interest in newcomer Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran) with the disapproval of Edwina’s sister Kate (Simone Ashley). Meanwhile, Benedict (Luke Thompson) will continue to immerse himself in the art world that he loves, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) will make her societal debut, and Colin (Luke Newton) will return home altered by his travels. Meanwhile, Penelope will continue to have enormous control over the ton as Lady Whistledown, but the secret will become harder to keep, and she will struggle with the wisdom of being a notorious gossip writer.

Bridgerton premiered on Netflix on Christmas of 2020, and fans have been waiting for the second season ever since, which was further delayed by a halt in production in the summer due to Covid-19. Now they can look forward to its confirmed release on March 25.
