A few day’s ago, the Pokemon Go Twitter feed went dark. When I say it went dark, I mean it has their twitter banner and icon pitch black. This led up to a countdown being put up for 24 hours, leading to some big announcement. That announcement has now been revealed to be a Team Rocket takeover of the world of Pokemon Go!

Team Go Rocket, as they are called in the game, have already made their presence known in Pokemon Go, but this event will be a full-blown takeover of the game. That means, from 4-5pm local time on July 28, every Pokestop in Pokemon Go will be occupied by a grunt for trainers to take on. The members of Team Go Rocket use powerful, mysterious shadow Pokemon who can be freed and caught after the battle. These shadow Pokemon will remain marked in your bag, but will also enjoy a nice stat boost as well.

Developer Niantic went all out to promote this event. Their official Twitter is currently completely taken over by Team Go Rocket, who are taking the time to send off sinister and hilarious tweets. Niantic also promoted the event by launching hot air balloons with the iconic R slapped on the side of them, and having planes fly over major cities dragging banners promoting the even in Pokemon Go.

This event seems to be all in good fun, but many fans feel a little let down by what it ended up being. For a 24 hour countdown to amount in an hour-long event, many feel that they were misled into thinking it would be something more. But who knows, this event could just be the first of many as Team Go Rocket seems to be sticking around for the time being in Pokemon Go.
