Japanese RPG Tales of Symphonia will be available on Steam February 2. Originally released in North America for Nintendo Game Cube in November of 2004, the game has since been ported to PlayStation 2. A remastered edition for PlayStation 3 was released in 2014 under the title, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Chronicles combined the game with its 2008 sequel, Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World for Wii.
The game was the fifth installment in Bandai Namco Studios’ Tales series, following Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Destiny 1 & 2 and Tales of Eternia. The PC version will support Steam Achievements, trading cards and full controller support. Unlike in Chronicles, the PC version of the game will not combine the original with its sequel. It will, however, still be in HD. A price hasn’t yet been announced, but the game will be free to those who pre-ordered Tales of Zestiria prior to the game’s launch.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Tales of Symphonia takes place in the world of Sylvarant. Players take the role of protagonist Lloyd Irving, accompanied by his companions, as they fight through a series of temples in order to restore mana to Sylvarant. With a story driven by anime cut scenes, players traverse Sylvarant’s vast landscapes and towns. The game’s real-time battle scenes received praise from fans of the series.
