October’s issue of Monthly Shonen Companion revealed that Takaaki Hayashi is drawing a new Baki Gaiden spinoff manga. The title of the spinoff will be Baki Gaiden: Gaia to Sikorsky. Hayashi posted an image of the statement on his Twitter account.

The manga will have a color opening page, while the rest will be in traditional manga style. As for the plot, the magazine teases the manga being set a few days after Gaia and Sikorsky’s fight in the main story. It teases a “rematch” between the two in a “battleground four and a half tatami mats big,” referring to the standard size of a small Japanese apartment. Hayashi also teases the manga as a story where “Gaia and Sikorsky” live together “sometimes with Nomura,” referring to Gaia’s alternate personality.

As of now, there is no confirmation or a release timeline for a western release for Takaaki Hayashi’s spinoff manga. While it is assumed that it will be listed under the same company that did the previous franchise installments, that is subject to change.

Takaaki Hayashi’s “Baki” Spinoff: A Long Loved Franchise Receiving Love

Keisuke’s Itagaki’s original Baki the Grappler manga ran in Akita Shoten’s Weekly Shonen Champion magazine from 1991 to 1999. Since then, the story has 42 compiled book volumes and more than 63 million copies in circulation. The series has received two television anime seasons and an OVA.

The sequel to the original story, simply titled Baki, is the second installment in the overall franchise. The manga also ran in Weekly Shonen Champion from 1999 to 2005 with 31 published volumes. That manga inspired an anime series on Netflix. Once that series ended, the sequel manga titled Baki Hanma then ran from 2005 to 2021 and also has a Netflix adaptation. It was then followed by sequels titled Baki- Dou (2014) and Bakidou (2018).

The Baki spinoff, Baki Gaiden: Gaia to Sikorsky, will launch on October 6th. The Baki the Grappler anime, more commonly known as Baki, is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
