The Supply Drop system that Call of Duty games have all had in recent iterations will return for Call of Duty WW2.  That is according to a recent clarification by Sledgehammer Games during a Reddit AMA.  Supply Drops have been a polarizing aspect of Call of Duty in recent years due to the inclusion of non-cosmetic items which has included powerful weapons with stat boosts.

With Call of Duty WW2, Sledgehammer Games says that all of the weapon and gear variants will be cosmetic only.

Michael Condrey, Studio Head and Co-Founder of Sledgehammer had this to say about Supply Drops:  “Yes. All weapon variants and gear variants in Call of Duty: WWII supply drops are cosmetic only, so there are no stat-based variants in play. We’re also offering players Collections and Collection Bounties, giving a direct path for our community to earn items through all modes of MP and Headquarters play.

Condrey’s response is a little bit vague and potentially somewhat misleading as those over on the AMA are already picking sides as to what this actually means.  Developers on previous Call of Duty games have said similar things and people take it to mean something that it doesn’t.  While he says that variants will be cosmetic only, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be new weapons in the Supply Drop system.

Condrey might not be trying to mislead people but the thing in his statement that immediately pops out at you is “Cosmetic Only” and people start cheering only to later be let down.  We’ll have to wait and see what the actual system is in Call of Duty WW2, but we’re banking that there is more than just cosmetic items found in Supply Drops for the game.
