SUPERHOT, the time-bending first-person shooter that sold most of the VR headsets collecting dust in gamer’s closets is now available for free on the Epic Games Store.

When it was first released in 2016 as a VR only game SUPERHOT was the must-have game for people that wanted to be at the forefront of virtual reality. For some time this game and Job Simulator was practically the only VR games worth playing. When SUPERHOT was made available for play without a VR headset it became clear that the game had more going for it than a gimmick that worked for people locked in a headset. The game is a cyberpunk FPS in which the player character enters a virtual world where time only moves forward when that player character moves. It’s one of those rare mechanics that works equally well in and out of VR. The other aspect of SUPERHOT that caught players’ eyes was the game’s fantastic sense of style. From the opening menu to the end credits SUPERHOT is dripping with 1990’s cyberpunk aesthetic.

The game is the third game being offered up for free by Epic as part of their Twelve Days of Free Games. The first game on offer was the Into the Breach, the fantastic mech turn-based strategy game from last year and the second were Towerfall: Ascension, the only game to escape the burning wreckage of the Ouya. A new free game will be made available on the Epic Games Store every day from now until January 1, 2020.

The Twelve Days of Games is just one part of the Holiday sale going on at the Epic Games Store. There is also a rotating $10 off coupon that refreshes with each eligible purchase and discounts on games up to 75% off.

If you haven’t played SUPERHOT it’s probably worth checking out for the price of free.
