The CW has found its Lex Luthor. The network has announced that Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer will play the iconic Superman villain in Supergirl.

Cryer’s Lex Luthor will play a recurring role on the show and will make his first appearance in this season’s 15th episode. Cryer joins Brenda Strong and Katie McGrath as parts of the Luthor family. Strong plays Lillian Luthor, Lex’s mother while Katie McGrath portrays Lena Luthor, Lex’s sister.

Jon Cryer has played a member of the Luthor family in the past. Previously, the actor played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. For those of you who don’t remember or wish to remember this movie’s existence, well it’s probably for the best.

Supergirl executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller put out a statement on the casting (courtesy of TV Line):

Supergirl is currently in its fourth season (third on the CW network). It stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers AKA Supergirl, Chyler Leigh as Kara’ adopted sister Alex, and Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen.

“Jon is a super-talent, and the fact that he played Lenny Luthor in ‘Superman IV’ brings an added layer of legacy to his casting. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Jon to the Supergirl family.”

The Girl of Steel is set to star alongside the Green Arrow and The Flash in the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, “Elseworlds”. This epic three-night event is set to begin with Supergirl on December 9th. It will continue the next night with Arrow and finally conclude December 11th with The Flash. The crossover will also be the introduction of Batwoman into the Arrowverse.
