Shazam has faced down many threats before. Whether he’s fighting solo, with his family, or alongside teams like the Justice Society of America, the Big Red Cheese is always ready to take on another foe. He has defeated the likes of Doctor Sivana and Black Adam, one of the most powerful villains in the DC Universe. Now, he will have to face off against none other than Superboy-Prime!

Michael Atiyeh, colorist for the Shazam! series posted an epic picture to his Twitter account. It shows Shazam and the members of his family battered and beaten. Superboy-Prime stands over the defeated heroes, his eyes glowing a sinister red. A Superman-level threat with an attitude problem, many heroes often band together to take down this villain.

Superboy-Prime: Rise and Fall

Superboy-Prime first appeared in Crisis on Infinite Earths, inhabiting Earth-Prime which had no metahumans. After his powers manifest, young Clark Kent joins the fight in the Crisis with the Anti-Monitor. When the threat is finally defeated, Superboy-Prime goes along with Earth-2 Superman, Lois Lane, and Earth-3 Alexander Luthor into a pocket “paradise” dimension. However, this did not last, as he began working with his friends and set in motion the events that led to Infinite Crisis.

Superboy-Prime has appeared numerous times since his turn to the dark side. He has absolutely no qualms about killing heroes or villains who get in his way. On one level, you feel for him as he is the only survivor of his universe. However, he leaves death and destruction in his wake with every appearance, even killing Earth-2 Superman. It’s hard to excuse his behavior when he murdered one of the greatest characters in the history of comics.
