Do it. You know you want to.

Your plan worked perfectly. Playing SSBU, your opponent overreached, you timed everything just right, he went sailing off the screen to his death, and then…what do you do now? You just nailed everything perfectly and beat your opponent after a long fight, and now it’s time to really celebrate. Thankfully there are plenty of choices thanks to taunts. These cheeky little moves are ultimately useless, but they really set off a human foe. But you need to know how to do them of course. Here’s how to taunt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

It’s all about the D-pad. Of course things may be slightly different, depending on which controller you use. But no matter which one you go with, taunts are assigned to the directions on the D-pad. All you need to do is press either up, left/right, or down to trigger one of each character’s three taunts. They will perform a different one, depending on which direction you press. Every character has a unique up, down, and side taunt, so mix them up for the biggest impact on your opponent’s psyche.

These moves don’t actually accomplish anything, so don’t worry too much if you have trouble pulling them off perfectly. They’re only real purpose is making your human foe play worse due to anger, or just giving you a good laugh as Mario gives the thumb up as Peach falls to her death. However you use them, one thing to keep in mind is that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lets you cancel out of them as well, just in case you get too cocky. This makes them a bit less of a danger, so experiment to see how best to use them in your matches.

And that’s how to taunt in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Easy enough, but actually using them to their fullest can take some practice.
